Phil & Co. is thrilled to celebrate the opening of the Cornell Tech campus, the permanent home of the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, an unprecedented partnership between the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Cornell University. The transformative, state-of-the-art applied sciences and technology campus opened last week on Roosevelt Island, NYC.
The vision of former Mayor Michael Bloomberg for expanding NYC’s tech sector, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute is developing the talent pool for the next generation of the City’s economy. A catalyst for entrepreneurship and a driver for NYC’s emerging tech ecosystem, the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute is expected to generate hundreds of new businesses and drive billions of dollars into the City’s economy over the next decade.
On Opening Day, celebrations included an official dedication ceremony attended by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Cornell University President Martha Pollack, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology President Peretz Lavie and Cornell Tech Dean Daniel Huttenlocher.
“With Cornell, we’ve developed a model of graduate-level technology education that is unlike any other—one that’s tailor-made not only for New York City but for the challenges of the digital revolution,” said Lavie.
Michael Bloomberg added, “Cornell Tech is an investment in the future of New York City—a future that belongs to the generations to come, and the students here to help build it. Technological innovation played a central role in New York City becoming a global economic capital—and it must continue to play a central role for New York to remain a global economic capital. The companies and innovations spawned by Cornell Tech graduates will generate jobs for people across the economic spectrum and help our city compete with tech centers around the world, from Silicon Valley to Seoul.”
