November is American Diabetes Month, and all month the American Diabetes Association continues to drive awareness and raise funds for prevention and treatment. And today, November 14th, is World Diabetes Day!
As announced by the International Diabetes Federation (a global alliance of national diabetes associations that includes the American Diabetes Association) the day’s theme is “Eyes On Diabetes”. As shown by a creative campaign like #DiabetesDanceDare that Phil & Co. helped to build, this is a literal, and achievable, goal.
Last year according to the IDF, there were 415 million adults worldwide living with diabetes, which includes 1 in 11 Americans. This is expected to climb to around 642 million—or one in ten adults—in the next 25 years. Childhood type 2 diabetes is a health crisis growing increasingly common across the globe, and right now, a new case of diabetes is diagnosed every 23 seconds. Those numbers seem big, and they are. But up to 70% of type 2 diabetes cases can be prevented or delayed by adopting healthier lifestyles, equivalent to up to 160 million cases by 2040. The ADA recently released new guidelines on how to incorporate all kinds of exercise into your lifestyle, and most importantly: Early and regular screening can reduce overall cases and improve quality of life for those living with diabetes. When it comes to diabetes, awareness is more than a buzzword—it’s a lifesaver.
That’s why Phil & Co. (in partnership with ADA and Entertain Impact) helped to put millions of eyes on diabetes with #DiabetesDanceDare, an innovative, influencer-fueled social media campaign. The results are tremendous: garnering over 20 million social media impressions and counting, it counts among its supporters celebrities like Shaq, Kelly Clarkson, Lance Bass, Usher, Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello and Noah Schnapp from Stranger Things. And just last week, the cast of NBC’s Chicago Fire joined in the excitement!
Presenting the Diabetes Dance Dare!
